Dear Northern
California Music People,
Yes,
it's official. Wild Weekend 2001 was the biggest Wild Weekend yet. The
vibes were fantastic as people really got into the spirit of the event.
Everyone worked together AND had fun. It was a blast!
I made
it to every club, starting with the legendary Fillmore and ending at
the almost as legendary Bimbo's 365 club...Whew! The shows were really
solid- terrific line-ups all the way around. We showed the music industry
and the Bay Area a LOT of good, different music over four nights (and
days). Go see the pictures!!
*We had
more community presence this year, by working with other regional bands
and more neighborhood clubs.
*We had
more print presence through the 4 page inserts in the SF Weekly and
Zero Magazine.
*We expanded
the official program from a back/front tri-fold to 20 graphically
designed pages. Read the introduction
here.
*We had
both a full hour on Live 105's Soundcheck and another hour on Local
Lounge focusing on Wild Weekend bands!
*We have
a compilation CD of 17 tracks of my favorite Wild Weekend bands called
Nadine's Faves, which you can buy for $10 (includes shipping and handling)
right here! Get your souvenir copy, contribute
to the SIBL Project and enjoy! What a deal.
*AND we
were able to donate money to the Songs
Inspired by Literature Project (the SIBL Project) and we raised
awareness about this important effort to help erase adult illiteracy.
Each CD sale will increase that figure.
Soon
we will be posting the press from the Wild Weekend, including the three
page spread in the national industry trade magazine, the Gavin
Report.
Thank you
to all the bands, who showed amazing talent and camaraderie. Thanks
to all the volunteers, all the stage managers and all the FANS who came
to support the shows.
Special
thanks to the following associate producers who put the event together:
Jay Siegan, Jordan Frease, Sarah Aldinger, Andrew Lion, Brion Porter,
Anthony Marchesi, Sean McConnell, Caroline Rustigian, Alisha Alexander,
Jocelyn Kane, Foster Johnson, Josh Nathanson, Craig Hordlow, Jeff Lebson,
Bryn Batchelor, Danny McCloskey and Lisa Klien.
A big thanks
to our sponsors: BMI, Dreamworks, Provident
Financial Services, Alize, SF Weekly, Live 105, Garageband and Click
Radio.
And to
the people of San Francisco and Northern California who help keep generation
after generation of musicians and artists hopeful. Thank you.
If you
are a band that needs help figuring out your next step, don't hesitate
to call me for a mentoring session. When you can't find a manager or
you can't get a lawyer, an agent, or a label to talk to you, call me.
It's what I do...help bands figure things out.
Lastly,
until the next event, remember, the Wild Weekend is a state of mind.
Make every DAY a Wild Weekend by staying true to your artistic visions,
trusting your instincts and living each day creatively.
Thank you
Northern Californian bands, artists, singers, and musicians.
Nadine
Condon
Executive Producer
Nadine's
Wild Weekend is Northern California's only music event devoted exclusively
to local music.
The Wild
Weekend celebrates the San Francisco music scene with fun, inclusive
showcases, for both music fans and the music industry. This year's
event will be August 16, 17, 18, and 19 in venues across the city
of San Francisco.
The Wild
Weekend supports local music, the community and creativity in all
it's forms. We believe in putting the "We" back in "Weekend". We support
a philosophy of musical inclusiveness, diversity, originality and
inspiration. That's San Francisco!
Because
we believe it's important to give back, a portion of all the proceeds,
including the registration fees and cd sales, will go to the SIBL Project
(Musicians Joining the Fight for Literacy) which funds 26 adult reading
programs in the Bay Area through songwriting efforts.
In terms
of local music, we are accepting submissions from any and all bands
residing from Santa Cruz to Chico. There are many good bands around
the country, but this is a San Franciso/Northern California celebration.
We are happy to "umbrella" the multitude of talents who create our
scene.
In terms
of community, several prominent local music groups are helping produce
the event along with Nadine Condon. These include SFMusician,
Motogirl,
Bandsummit,
Rocktronica,
Jay Siegan
Presents, Next Step Management,
LK Management and K
Line Publicity, along
with long time Bay Area supporter, BMI.
It's a group effort, to present, highlight and showcase the best and
most interesting and deserving music around.
Who can
forget Stroke 9's memorable headlining performance at the Fillmore,
after Nadine introduced them at the opening night party? We support
all the Stroke 9s, Counting Crows, Third Eye Blinds, Trains and Smashmouths-to
be, who are out there playing. Frankly, no matter what your musical
style, or what you aspire to in your music, we support all of you.
Get involved.
Get happy. Get wild!
