Many
bands want to know how we choose acts for the Wild Weekend.
The
truth is, I do not adhere to any hard and fast rules in
booking my shows...I have always based my shows on instinct
and gut reaction...but here are a few things that help
get my attention.
If
you have a great demo, with arresting, memorable songs,
I pay attention.
If
you have a good live show, I pay attention.
If
you have a good past attendance record, I pay attention.
If
you have an interesting website , design style, or press
kit, I pay attention.
If
you undertake consistent self promotion and make an effort
with your music, I pay attention.
If
you are selling records, I pay attention.
If
you are working with industry professionals, I pay attention.
If
your newsletter has facts about shows, radio, press, touring,
I pay attention.
If
you stand out from the crowd, I pay attention.
If
you have an interesting philosophy, attitude, spark, I pay
attention.
If
you have some momentum going with your music, I pay attention.
If
other clubs, producers, managers, lawyers, mention you,
I pay attention.
If
I like the music, or other people rave about the music,
I pay attention.
So
you see- there are so many, many variables. But part of
what we do is sell your talent, first to the clubs, then
to the industry, then to the general public. As much information
as you can give us that will help us in that regard, will
be beneficial to your cause.
However,
I do try to give all levels of bands a chance, from beginners
to established acts...if it's your passion- go for it!
I like spark and spunk. That's called artist developement,
and it's one of the main functions of the Wild Weekend.
We're inclusive, not exclusive.
Although
we get many industry representatives (from scouts to label
presidents), I don't expect bands to necessarily get signed-
that depends on many different factors that I will address
on this web site (www.nadineswildweekend.com) before the
actual Weekend. At NWW 2001, two bands got offers on the
spot; Counting Crows & Stroke 9 got signed mostly right
away after their showcases; 3EB- 18 months later; The
Beauty Stab- 6 years later after morphing into the Dandy
Warhols) ...
I expect performers to play their best, have a good experience
and be encouraged enough to continue on their career paths,
knowing that success is possible in many ways.
If
I can:
highlight the most promising current talent and bring it
to the industry's attention...
support
our current success stories who have moved on to national
careers ...
keep
good developing bands writing and performing while helping
them build a good foundations...
incorporate
local music businesses (studios, managers, lawyers, producers)
in the event
and ...
entertain
the general public of the San Francisco Bay area...
then the Wild Weekend is a success.
With
the help of my co-producers and many other peoples, we
feel the 2003 Wild Weekend will be a true success story
for all of us, working together (and having fun!)
Thank
you.

Hello
Everyone,
First
and foremost, thank you for applying for Nadine's Wild
Weekend. It promises to be a blast. If you haven't sent
in your $30 yet, DO SO NOW. We can't consider you this
year, if you haven't paid. If you have paid, you should
have recieved a confirmation email from Jocelyn Kane.
We're
coming down to the wire and payment must be postmarked
by June 15, 2002 (next Friday)! Send to Nadine's Wild
Weekend, 754 Natoma Street, San Francisco, Ca. 94103
We
just finished two great regional shows this month. One
in San Jose at The Usual and one in Sacramento at Old
Ironsides. Once again, I am impressed by the level of
commitment and passion all you bands have for making your
music. It's not easy playing "live" shows in today's tough
economic climate.
WE,
as in all of us putting on the Wild Weekend, are committed
to putting together solid shows in good venues to appreciative
crowds for you, your fans, your new fans to come and industry
reps.
We
have a bunch of new press now for 2002...I think you'll
be interested in reading them... and we'lll be uploading
some pix from the shows too! Nadine Condon

Hi Everyone,
We
just had our first "Wild Night" show in Sacramento in
early May and it was a BLAST!
Great,
great, great music from Slow Lorries, Victory Gin, Forever
Goldrush and Los Pesadillas. Check out the terrific article
in the Sacramento
News & Review- 2 full pages!
On
Thursday May 30th, we are hosting another "Wild Night",
this time in San Jose, featuring Triple Seven, Fighting
Jacks, Ones and Zeroes, Autopunch and Miggs, at the Usual.
See the great article on Powerslave.com.
We
will have a special meet and greet for bands to come down
before the show to meet myself (the Godmother of Rock)
and co-producer Jocelyn Kane (Motogirl) starting @ 7:30
p.m.
Come
by and introduce yourselves, apply to play the big Wild
Weekend in August, drop off your kits, and help us to
know who rocks in the south bay!
Hope
to see you there.

more information we will continue to update things.
Don't forget all the new things we are including this

NADINE'S WILD WEEKEND ANNOUNCES
2002 DATES AND EXPANSION PLANS
Nadine Condon Expands Band Search Throughout Northern
California
"Nadine's Wild Night" Added As Preview Showcases
San
Francisco, CA - Last night during Band Summit's Aural
Pleasure monthly industry mixer at the Tongue & Groove
club in San Francisco, the "Godmother of Rock"
Nadine Condon was on hand to announce the dates and expansion
plans for the 2002 Nadine's Wild Weekend (NWW) which are
August 22nd, 23rd and 24th. This year's event will be
co-produced by Motogirl Productions and K-Line Publicity,
and the early sponsors include BMI and SF Weekly with
more to be announced soon.
Now
in its fourth year, NWW, the Bay Area's biggest music
event devoted to promoting unsigned talent, will expand
its scope to include acts from all of Northern California,
not just the Bay Area, and add "Nadine's Wild Night" preview
shows. These multi-band showcases will take place in the
late spring and early summer in Sacramento, San Jose,
and Modesto in advance of the August main event. Bands
that apply for the Wild Weekend will automatically be
considered for these Wild Night shows.
Music
submissions from regional bands residing from Monterey
to Chico, Modesto to San Jose, Sacramento to Tahoe and
all of the Bay Area are being accepted March 6 through
June 15, 2002. To be considered for a spot during the
August Weekend and for the Wild Night showcases, all bands
must apply online at www.nadineswildweekend.com.
As a long-time supporter of local music, Nadine started
these events because she wanted to "put the 'We' back
in Weekend." Her philosophy supports musical inclusiveness,
diversity, originality and inspiration. "I believe in
regional activities and making a statement about hometown
talent," said Condon. "We have lots of superstar
bands in this area, who all started out the same way-
playing in clubs to fans. This event has proven to be
continually popular year after year and I think it is
because it's a group effort, to present, highlight and
showcase the best and most deserving music around."
As in previous years, NWW 2002 will showcase over 100
of the best of Northern California's homegrown musical
talent over four nights in various venues across San Francisco.
Additionally, Nadine will pick a charity that will be
the beneficiary from the CD sales of the NWW compilation
CD. This charity will be announced in the near future.
Bands
seeking showcase submissions must go to www.nadineswildweekend.com
and go to the "apply"
section where there are detailed instructions. For more
information on band submissions, contact Jocelyn Kane

The first Nadine's Wild Weekend (NWW) was in 7 clubs with
70 bands over 2 1/2 days. The second NWW bumped up to
10 clubs with 100 bands over 3 days and included the opening
night bash at the Fillmore starring Stroke 9, just as
they were releasing their hit single, "Little Black Backpack".

over 4 days, and the closing show featured Jason Newsted's
first post-Metallica project, EchoBrain.
